AGENDA
Thursday, June 25th - hosted by GlaxoSmithKline, GSK House

  • 8:30 am Continental Breakfast
  • 9:00 am Meeting begins
    • Global Metrics, What It Takes to Do It Right
    • One of the most challenging aspects of global diversity and inclusion is how to measure progress and create accountability at a global level and at local levels. This segment will focus on the global challenges of setting diversity goals and strategies and choosing metrics that are meaningful in measuring progress against these goals - a linkage that is often glossed over as organisations look for "numbers" that they can report.
    • In an interactive session, Mary Martinéz, ORC's Director of Workforce Consulting, will discuss with members how global strategy can - through consideration of both the local business and workforce/workplace issues - be translated to the regional and country level, accompanied by measurements that make sense relative to the issues to be addressed and the prevailing culture. From the most basic types of metrics like tracking women in leadership positions globally, to more complex measures such as evaluating progress on business-related objectives or subtle aspects of inclusion and access to career development opportunities, Mary will integrate the findings of ORC's research and best practice examples with guidance based on our overall model for diversity change management, and facilitate a discussion, with input from Julie Oyegun of the World Bank on different organisations' approaches to global metrics in different regions and countries.
    • Confidential Roundtable Discussion
    • The Member Roundtable discussion allows confidential exchange between members on topics of interest. Topics may be raised at the meeting, or sent in advance to: liz.macgillivray@orcww.com

  • 12:30 pm Lunch Regional Focus - South Africa
    • As the leading economy on the continent, South Africa's unique history and demographic diversity provides myriad challenges for businesses managing inclusion and diversity in the workplace. We are delighted to welcome speakers with a wealth of expertise on South Africa to share with us the legal, social and cultural perspectives for businesses operating in this region. We are joined by two experts from the region:
  • Break: Tour of GlaxoSmith Kline
    • Review of Developments in World Regions - June 2009
    • The field of global diversity is developing rapidly, shaped by trends in global business, demographic changes, and evolving legislative and regulatory equality schemes. Liz MacGillivray and Deirdre Golden, ORC Worldwide, will provide an update on developments in different regions, comparing social/economic/cultural environments. D&I efforts in developed economies as well as the transition and developing economies will be discussed.
  • 4:00 pm Adjourn
