DOL Received Nearly $10M in Back Pay in FY2009
The OFCCP obtained $9.31 million in back pay for 21,839 workers through 94 financial settlements of discrimination claims against federal contractors in fiscal year 2009. The data was not released in the usual press release but was contained in the Department of Labor’s fiscal 2011 budget justification document for OFCCP which was posted on the agency’s website at http://www.dol.gov/dol/budget/2011/PDF/CBJ-2011-V2-04.pdf. The $9.31 million in back pay is substantially less than the record total of $67.5 million in back pay, annualized salary and benefits that OFCCP reported in fiscal year 2008. According to the budget document, OFCCP no longer includes “annualized salaries” as part of the pay and benefits recovered for alleged discrimination victims. “Monetary benefits for affected workers will be reported as workers are actually hired and paid.”
